(USGovernment-News.Com, April 12, 2013 ) In Japan, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda and Honda recently announced that they will be recalling 3.4 million vehicles worldwide due to air bag problems.
Honda reported that they were not aware of any injuries related to the defect in the passenger side airbag, however, they have recognized that there were 18 injuries and two deaths as a result of the driver side air bag deploying with so much power that it was sending shards of metal into the vehicles drivers.
The Takata Corporation, headquartered in Japan, is the manufacturer of all four recalls which includes around 1.73 million Toyotas, 480,000 Nissans, 1.14 million Hondas, and 45,000 Mazda vehicles.
It is reported that similar to the driver’s side air bags sending shards of metal into the driver, the passenger airbags would send shards of metal into the windshield and propel them down to the passenger’s foot well.
The Toyota vehicles being recalled in the United States include; Corolla Matrix, Sequoia, Tundra, 2001-3 Toyota Corolla, and the Lexus SC 430, while Honda is recalling; the 2001-3 Civics, 2002 Odyssey minivans, and the 2002-3 CR-V models.
