Harlan "Jay" Bivens helping the BME organization in Detroit
(USGovernment-News.Com, April 10, 2013 ) Detroit, MI – Progress is being made toward making the City of Detroit a better place, and that progress took place as recently as yesterday along parts of Gratiot Avenue.
Detroit is a city that gets a lot of negative press, and a lot of it is for good reason. While there are several really nice neighborhoods within the city, there are many more areas that plainly look dirty, leaving a bad impression on visitors and generally lowering the morale of people who live in the city.
Jay Bivens and other members of his BDYM group teamed with Clifford Kennedy of Donation Cuts to help clean parts of Gratiot Avenue. The project was named Clean Gratiot, and several volunteers helped sweep, rake, and pick up trash. So far, they collected over 25 trash bags full of trash and debris.
Jay Bivens also actively recruited several people living in the neighborhood to participate in cleaning up their own neighborhood while also sharing some of the benefits of the BDYM group.
Several people in the neighborhood lent a hand for a few moments at a time, and several more profusely complimented their efforts. One person shared, “This is the first time in ten years anyone has cleaned up Gratiot.”
Jay Bivens and the BDYM group help support many organizations within the City of Detroit, all of which are aimed toward helping make the city a better place to live for young and older people. He often recruits his Detroit barber shop customers to pitch in the effort to make Detroit safer, cleaner, and altogether better.
