Hyundai, Kia Recall 1.9 Million Cars Reports The Eichholz Law Firm

(USGovernment-News.Com, April 06, 2013 ) Savannah, GA – Approximately 1.9 million Hyundai and Kia models have been recalled throughout the United States and Puerto Rico due to electrical problems and faulty airbags that could cause injuries. The electrical problems could cause multiple electrical system failures according to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Approximately 1.68 million cars are being affected by an electrical error that causes the brake light switch to switch on and off intermittently which could lead to further vehicle system failures. Some common systems that rely on the brake light include the push-button ignition, shift-lock system that controls the gear shift, cruise control, and warning lights from the stability control system.

Recalled Hyundai models include the 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2007-2011 Santa Fe, 2008-2009 Veracruz, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe and 2011 Sonata. Approximately 623,658 Kia models were recalled including the 2007 Sedona, 2007-2010 Rondo and Sportage, 2007-2011 Sorento, 2011 Optima, and 2010-2011 Soul.

Additionally 193,875 Hyundai models have been recalled for side airbags that could injure passengers during a car crash, including the 2011-2013 Elantra. In May 2012 the NHTSA received a complaint from a driver who suffered cuts from a metal bracket that popped out when the airbag deployed.
