(USGovernment-News.Com, March 08, 2013 ) SAVANNAH, Ga. - On Thursday, Subaru of America issued a recall for 47,419 cars and crossover vehicles with remote starters. The company reports that the engines could start on their own. The Eichholz Law Firm wants Georgia residents to be aware of this recall due to a possible asphyxiation risk.
Subaru is recalling Legacy and Outback cars from model years 2010 through 2013, Impreza sedans from 2012 and 2013, and XV Crosstrek crossover vehicles from 2013.
If the remote starter key fob is dropped, the vehicle may start without the ignition button on the fob being pressed. The engine may start and run for up to 15 minutes, any may continue to may continue to start and stop until the fob battery has died or the car runs out of gas. This can be dangerous if the vehicle is parked in an enclosed space, like a garage; carbon monoxide can build up putting individuals at risk of asphyxiation.
At this time, no accidents or injuries have been reported.
Subaru will notify owners and replace the remote starter fob for free. The recall is expected to begin in April.
