Cochran Firm Reports on Cleveland Public Power Heat Assistance Plan

(USGovernment-News.Com, December 13, 2012 ) Dothan, AL -- To help individuals meet their home heating needs and keep their families warm, Cleveland Public Power provides a payment plan for low-income customers to maintain or restore electrical power to their homes and apartments this winter season.

The structure of the payment assistance program offered by Cleveland Public Power is simple. If a family uses electrical power as a secondary heating source in the home, 5% percent of their monthly income goes to power. If the home is all electric, and has no other heating source, 15% of their monthly income is charged.

It is important to note if a person chooses to participate, amount owed must not be more than $125 at time of application. Once on the program, service will be maintained as long as the payment plan is adhered to regardless of total owed. However, during the summer months (May-Oct.) participants must pay their current electric bill in full.

To qualify, customers of Cleveland Public Power must be at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. And unfortunately, this service is not available to landlords who include electricity in the rental charge, therefore the renter will need to continue to pay the bill as given by the landlord.

To apply, applicants must appear in person at Cleveland Public Power’s office located at 1300 Lakeside Avenue in Cleveland and must present current photo identification, proof of income and a Social Security number for all members of household.

Additional information can be obtained by calling Cleveland Public Power’s customer service at (216) 664-4600 or by visiting them online at http://www.cpp.org.
