WomenÂ’s Health Key Element in Senate election race reports WomensOrganization.org

(USGovernment-News.Com, October 16, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- For U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, women’s health became a critical issue in her reelection. Her Republican opponent, Todd Akin made the now infamous statement about “legitimate rape,” in regards to abortion.

The election races now have moved from discussing the economy, taxes, federal regulation to gender equality.

McCaskill tells her supporters, “We want him to keep talking. Every week, we get another radical view from Todd Akin."

She released a new advertisment recently where she focuses on women’s health.

In the advertisement, she states, “As a prosecutor, Claire McCaskill put hundreds of predators behind bars, fought on behalf of victims, counseled survivors of sexual violence. It's why Claire understands that survivors of rape deserve the option of emergency contraception whether they accept it or not. But Todd Akin opposes emergency contraception for victims of rape and incest”

While Todd Akin apologized repeatedly for his mistake, McCaskill says that her campaign will continue to focus on women’s health because it is "so much of a conversation right now is because Todd Akin made it a conversation by exposing views that most women just flat out reject."

"They don't think an employer should have the freedom to discriminate against them and pay them less for the same work. They don't believe that they should be made a criminal for taking emergency contraception after they've been a victim of rape," she said. "That is all on Todd Akin."

The two candidates will debate next week for a final round.
