(USGovernment-News.Com, October 13, 2012 ) SAVANNAH, GA – Residents of Georgia must be aware of the nationwide meningitis outbreak occurring due to potentially tainted epidural steroid injections. The New England Compounding Center responsible for the distribution of this product has recalled all steroids that had been shipped since May 21, 2012. As of today, a total of 11 states have persons with fungal infections connected with these epidural steroid injections. In the 11 states, a total of 170 case counts have accumulated, accounting for 14 deaths thus far. With the assistance from public health officials, the CDC has been sweeping the country to investigate this contaminated steroid medication.
While no cases of fungal meningitis have been found in Georgia thus far, several healthcare facilities within the state had received shipments of the dangerous epidural steroid injection. Any patients who believe that they may have been treated with an epidural steroid injection within the last 5 months must seek medical attention immediately.
Following healthcare treatment, fungal meningitis patients are advised to seek a class action attorney to pursue any possible compensation from the at-fault manufacturer.
