Four Teens From Queens Die In One-Car Crash reports DMillerLaw.com

(USGovernment-News.Com, October 12, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- The four 18-year-old passengers of a 17-year-old driver, all from Queens, New York, were killed when their car failed to negotiate a curve and crashed into trees alongside a Long Island highway. The driver and at least two passengers were recent high school graduates. The crash took place about 3:40 a.m. Monday; all five teens were ejected from the vehicle, a 2012 Subaru Impreza. The four passengers died at the scene.

The driver, Joseph Beer, who was injured in the single-car crash, lost control of the vehicle near a Southern State Parkway exit in Hempstead. He crossed two lanes of traffic and drove off the highway’s shoulder and into the trees. He only held a learner’s permit, valid just during limited hours, and drivers with learner’s permits are supposed to be supervised by a licensed driver at least 21 years old.

Heather Senti, the chief of a nearby volunteer fire department, described as “horrific” the fatal crash involving the teens. She also noted that portion of the highway has become known locally as “dead man’s curve,” because its sharp turn comes up quickly after an earlier straightaway. In fact, a driver there was rescued from a single-vehicle crash a few hours before the fatal accident, and emergency responders heading to the fatal crash saw another car crash in the same spot the first rescue took place.

An investigation is continuing as to why the 17-year-old driver lost control.
