Cochran Firm Reports on the ChildrenÂ’s Health Insurance Program

(USGovernment-News.Com, October 09, 2012 ) Dothan, AL -- The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is a program that provides health insurance to all uninsured children and teens that are not eligible for or enrolled in Medical Assistance. CHIP covers a wide range of services that include:

o Immunizations

o Doctor’s office visits

o Prescription medications

o Eye care and eyeglasses

o Emergency care

o Hearing care

o Mental health services

o Home health care

o Dental care

o Laboratory tests/x-rays



Eligibility for CHIP is based on household income, the age of each child and the insured status of each child. Children from birth to the age of 19 who do not currently have health insurance are eligible to receive coverage through CHIP. Individuals must also be a U.S. citizen as well as a resident of Pennsylvania to receive benefits through CHIP.



CHIP eligibility is continuous for one year. Although there are no income limits required for CHIP, families whose income exceed the limits for free CHIP will have to pay low monthly premiums and co-pays for select services.



To obtain CHIP benefits, one can apply by mail by filling out the application and mailing it to the insurance company selected to provide the child’s CHIP coverage. One may also apply by phone by calling 1-800-986-KIDS to speak to a counselor who will take the information and submit it electronically. The third way to apply is to online at www.compass.state.pa.us.



Copies of proof of all household gross income must be included with the application (such as a copy of a pay stub, a tax return or a letter from the [aren’t or guardian’s employer.
