DREAM Act Could Help Illegal Immigrant Obtain Law License, Says Mike Lewis Attorneys

(USGovernment-News.Com, October 05, 2012 ) WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Obama’s DREAM Act directive may help a Florida man who is fighting for his law license in the state’s Supreme Court.

Jose Godinez-Samperio is bidding to become the first illegal immigrant to obtain a license to practice law in the United States.

Godinez-Samperio came to the United States with his parents on a visitor visa when he was 9 years old, but his family never returned to Mexico.

He graduated from New College in Florida, earned a law degree from Florida State University, and passed the state bar exam last year.

On Tuesday, Justice Barbara Pariente suggested that the court could possibly temporarily license Godinez-Samperio.

It’s also possible that the seven justices may delay their decision to see if Godinez-Samperio is able to obtain a work permit under Obama’s DREAM Act directive.

The DREAM Act was intended to protect immigrants under 30 years old who entered the U.S. illegally as children. The directive exempts them from deportation and offers temporary work permits as well as Social Security cards for those who apply.

The policy may or may not continue; it depends on the outcome of the presidential election. It’s also important to note that the policy is not necessarily a path to citizenship.

The immigration process is both complex and extensive and complications are common when applying for visas or citizenship.

Many who have successfully navigated the immigration process have done so with the help of an immigration lawyer. The immigration attorney Mike Lewis Attorneys is available to answer any questions about the DREAM Act or about the immigration process in general.
