(USGovernment-News.Com, October 04, 2012 ) SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released a new study on teen drinking and driving. According to the study, the number of teens who drive after drinking has dropped 54 percent. In 2011, 10.3 percent of high school students 16 and older reported drinking and driving in the previous 30 days, compared to 22.3 percent of students in 1991.
Several factors may have contributed to the decline in teens that drink and drive including graduated driver licensing programs and stricter laws on drunk driving. The CDC reports that teenagers are driving less these days; this may be due to high gas prices and a slow economy.
While there has been a decrease in teens that are drunk driving, 1 million high school students admitted to driving after consuming alcoholic beverages last year.
Alcohol still plays a factor in teen driving fatalities; it contributes to 800 deaths a year.
