Community Mourns the Death of Officer Killed while Serving PresidentÂ’s Motorcade

(USGovernment-News.Com, September 15, 2012 ) WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Friends, family and fellow police officers recognized a man, loved by the community, who lost his life on Sunday while aiding in President Barack Obama’s motorcade.

Hundreds of police officers from across the country, state officials and members of the community turned out to pay their respects at Officer St. Laurent’s funeral Friday morning.

Officer Bruce St. Laurent of the Jupiter Police Force was killed on Sunday while serving in the President’s motorcade. According to a preliminary investigation conducted by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol, Officer St. Laurent crossed several lanes of traffic on Interstate 95 before being ejected from his motorcycle.

The officer moved into the path of a pickup truck that was attempting to merge into southbound traffic on the highway.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Friday. The funeral procession, from Christ Fellowship Church in Palm Beach Gardens to Riverside Memorial Park in Tequesta was led by hundreds of police officers in cars and on motorcycles.

The motorcade passed by the personal injury law office of Gordon & Doner, where employees stood outside, saluting police officers with hands over their hearts as they drove past.

Since the accident, there has been a consistent flow of people dropping off flowers at police headquarters and lighting candles in honor of the fallen officer.

The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is aglow with a blue light in honor of the 20-year-veteran.

Additionally, Gov. Rick Scott ordered that flags be held at half-mast.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the sacrifice civil servants give daily. By putting their lives on the line, they ensure public safety. Take some time to acknowledge and thank the civil servants in your community today for all that they do.
