Cochran Firm Reports on MarylandÂ’s Temporary Disability Assistance Program

(USGovernment-News.Com, September 12, 2012 ) Dothan, AL -- The Temporary Disability Assistance Program (TDAP), formally known as the Transitional Emergency, Medical and Housing Assistance program (TEMHA), provides temporary assistance to low-income individuals with disabilities in Maryland. TDAP, which is funded by the State of Maryland, is designed to provide monthly financial assistance to eligible Maryland residents who lack access to or are not eligible for other resources.

Through the TDAP program, eligible residents are provided with help in obtaining cash, medical and housing assistance to meet their needs. Assistance through TDAP may only be available for 12 months out of a 36 month period. However, for individuals who are pursing or appealing an SSI or SSDI decision, the TDAP assistance period may vary. Applicants with disabilities that last for 12 months or longer are required by the TDAP program to apply for SSI or SSDI benefits.

To be eligible for assistance through TDAP, applicants must:

• Be disabled for three (3) or more months

• Provide proof of their disability, verified by a licensed medical practitioner

• Have no dependent children (children under 18 years of age) residing with them

• Provide proof of income and assets

Applicants interested in receiving benefits through TDAP can complete an application online by visiting www.marylandsail.org or in person by visiting their local Department of Social Services. To find a local DSS office in your county or to learn more about the TDAP program, call 1-800-332-6347.
