(USGovernment-News.Com, August 07, 2012 ) Dothan, AL -- The Midtown Assistance Center (MAC) is a non-profit interfaith organization that aims to help prevent homelessness and hunger throughout Atlanta, Georgia. The goal of MAC is to provide emergency assistance to low-income families and individuals in Midtown and Downtown Atlanta who are:
• Currently working, but have not received a pay check
• Not receiving any public assistance and are completing job training
• Employed, but are facing a temporary crisis due to sickness, work hours being temporarily cut back or a layoff
In fulfilling its goals, MAC provides several services to those in need dependent upon their circumstance. These services include:
• Financial Support (past-due rent or utilities)
• Assistance Obtaining Official State Identification
• Short-term Food Assistance
• MARTA Cards or Transit Tokens (must be employed or interviewing)
• Men’s Clothing & Work Shoes (& on occasion, tools)
• Counseling & Referrals
In order to receive services such as food, utility assistance or rent assistance, individuals must live within one of MAC’s six Atlanta zip code service areas: 30303, 30308, 30309, 30313, 30312 and 30314.
Prior to receiving services through MAC, individuals in need of assistance must call to schedule an appointment. When calling to schedule an appointment, individuals will be pre-screened by a MAC staff member to determine eligibility and the specific types of assistance needed. To verify the specific type or amount of assistance needed, individuals may be asked to bring certain forms of documentation to their appointment. After approving individuals for assistance, MAC conducts a follow up to ensure that the funds issued are being utilized as intended.
Based on their funding, MAC may also be able to provide services to residents of other Fulton and DeKalb county zip codes.
