Police Officer Steps – A Law Enforcement Career Information Hub from Police Training to Payscale to Eligibility

(USGovernment-News.Com, June 11, 2012 ) La Prairie, Canada -- Individuals who are contemplating a career as a police officer will be greatly served by the heap of information on Police Officer Steps, a website that combs the internet for pertinent data with regards to the subject.

For a little while now, the website has been working on becoming the go-to information source for those looking to pursue a career as a law enforcement officer. From education requirements to physical training to payscale, Police Officer Steps lays it all out in detail and in clear and concise language.

According to the website, to become a police officer the following pre-requisites apply:

• High school diploma – required across the board

• No criminal record – including drug convictions

• Physical fitness – candidates are required to pass a fitness ability test

• Mental fitness – those with a previous mental condition are not eligible

• United States Citizenship – non US citizens are not eligible

• Higher education – associate’s or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice

Those who satisfy the above pre-requisites will then need to undergo a series of record checks, such as a background check, in order to move on to the next phase of the hiring process. Also, there are states that require their new recruits to have a 4-year college degree in order to be eligible to become a police officer.

When it comes to pay, the website states that a few factors come into play such as level of education, position occupied, years of experience, to name just a few. Pay also varies from state to state. The website lists average salaries that police officers earn in some states:

• Maine: approximately $35, 000 per year

• Colorado: about $44,000 per year

• Texas: around $44,000 per year

• Alaska: approximately $74,000 per year

The above figures are not reflective of all the benefits that come with the position. Benefits include overtime pay, insurance, vacation and sick pay.

The website also covers other law enforcement agencies such as the FBI and Homeland Security; however, eligibility requirements for these are much more stringent.
