(USGovernment-News.Com, June 04, 2012 ) Press Release Distribution Services: http://emailwire.com/national_press_release_service.php

On Tuesday, 5 June 2012, in New York, International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo will brief the United Nations Security Council on the situation in Darfur.

The Prosecutor will update the Council on the ongoing investigation in Darfur and ongoing cooperation with State Parties and non-State Parties on the implementation of the pending arrest warrants.

This is the 15th report to the Council by the Prosecutor on Darfur pursuant to UNSCR 1593 (2005). It will also be the last report of Mr Moreno-Ocampo as Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.

Following his briefing, the Mr Moreno-Ocampo will hold a press conference at the United Nations Headquarters at 1300 PM EST.

The ICC is an independent, permanent court that investigates and prosecutes persons accused of the most serious crimes of international concern, namely genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes if national authorities with jurisdiction are unwilling or unable to do so genuinely. The Office of the Prosecutor is currently investigating in seven situations: The Democratic Republic of Congo, Northern Uganda, the Darfur region of Sudan, Central African Republic, Kenya, Libya and Ivory Coast. The Office is also currently conducting preliminary examinations analyzing alleged crimes committed on the territory of Honduras, Republic of Korea, Afghanistan and Nigeria, as well as checking if genuine national proceedings are being carried out in Guinea, Colombia and Georgia.
