(USGovernment-News.Com, June 14, 2012 ) Dothan, AL -- Hunger Lifeline is an information and referral service for residents in need of emergency food assistance throughout the DC Metropolitan Area. Offered through the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB), the goal of Hunger Lifeline is to provide food for those who suffer from hunger. By calling Hunger Lifeline, individuals will be connected with local agencies and/or organizations in their area that can specifically assist them in meeting their nutritional needs. Referrals provided through Hunger Lifeline may include information on how and where to obtain groceries, the location of local soup kitchens and free meals. In addition to referring individuals to emergency food assistance programs, the Hunger Lifeline also directs clients to organizations and agencies that may offer additional services that can further assist them in meeting their various needs.
Referrals provided through Hunger Lifeline are given every ninety (90) days to individuals in need who reside in the following CAFB service areas:
• District of Columbia
• Northern Virginia
• Montgomery County
• Prince George’s County.
The Food Bank offers educational programs teaching people gardening skills to allow them to grow their own fresh vegetables. They couple the gardening classes with nutritional training. In addition the Bank provides hands-on cooking, nutrition and financial management education, teaching families how to cook nutritious meals on a budget.
