OREGON REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE MEDIA CREDENTIAL REQUESTS OPEN

Broadcast Live on March 19 at 6p.m. PDT (9p.m. EDT) ON PBS and NPR

Portland, OR – The Oregon Republican Party, Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB), and The Washington Times today issued the following press credential guidelines in anticipation of the last scheduled debate of the primary season on Monday, March 19, 2012 in Portland, Oregon. The Republican National Committee has sanctioned this debate. Organizers have sent invitations to the candidates and await responses from the campaigns.

PBS NewsHourÂ’s Senior Correspondent Ray Suarez and The Washington Times Chief Political Correspondent Ralph Z. Hallow will moderate the 90-minute debate, which will take place in OPBÂ’s studio at 6:00 p.m. (PDT).

PBS and NPR will air the debate live, broadcasting it throughout the country on public television and radio stations. Video of the debate will stream live on pbs.org. In addition, the live feed will be made available to Armed Forces Radio and TV, Voice of America and the PBS UK Channel. The debate will be closed captioned in English and in Spanish and a Spanish language translation will broadcast on a secondary audio channel.

A Press Filing Center will operate on the Oregon Public Broadcasting property at 6932 SW Macadam Avenue, Portland, Oregon 97219 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (PDT) on March 19, 2012.

PBS and NPR will air the debate live, broadcasting it throughout the country on public television and radio stations. The debate will stream live on pbs.org and npr.org.

Please be advised that the Press Filing area is very limited. Journalists who are interested in obtaining a press credential for the Press Filing and Spin Room Center should submit the following information prior to 11:59 p.m. (PDT), Thursday, March 15, 2012. Request for credentials does not guarantee that you will receive press credentialing or entrance to the media center or Spin Room. A confirmation will be sent to all approved media representatives providing information on press credential pick-up and relevant logistical information.

All requested information must be submitted in order to be considered for credentials. Only working journalists will be qualified for press credentials; all applications for credentials are at the discretion of the debate organizers (OPB, TWT, ORP). Credentialed media status will be verified and each media representative will be required to present government-issued photo identification and a company ID upon check-in at the Press Filing Center on the day of the debate. No exceptions.

Credentials will provide journalists access to the Press Filing Center. Separate credentials must be requested and approved for access to the Spin Room.

PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS MADE FOR PRESS CREDENTIAL REQUESTS MADE PAST THE DEADLINE OF 11:59 P.M, PDT ON THURSDAY, MARCH 15, 2012.

PRESS CREDENTIAL PICK-UP

PLEASE NOTE: Those media approved to receive media credentials will have access only to the Press Filing Center, NOT the debate hall.

The Press Filing Center and Spin Room are located at 6932 SW Macadam, adjacent to the debate hall. Approved journalists may pick up their credentials at the Press Filing Center. Doors will open to credentialed journalists beginning at 9:00 a.m. PDT on March 19, 2012. Media will be required to present government-issued photo identification (passport, state ID, or driverÂ’s license) and a company ID upon check-in at the Press Filing Center. Freelance journalists may provide a signed letter on company letterhead in lieu of a media company ID. Journalists must wear their credential so that it is visible at all times.

GENERAL MEDIA PARKING

There will be no on-site parking for media. We recommend using a cab. Limited parking may be available for general media some distance from the site. Parking and shuttle information will be sent once credentials have been approved.

PRESS FILING CENTER AND SPIN ROOM: ACCESS AND ACCOMMODATIONS

The Press Filing Center and Spin Room are at 6932 SW Macadam.
The Press Filing Center and Spin Room will open to credentialed journalists from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. PDT on Monday, March 19.
There will be projection screens in the Press Filing Center to watch the debate live.

An audio mult-box for excerpting the program will be available inside the Press Filing Center; a video mult-box with a limited number of plugs-ins will also be available on a first-come, first-served basis. See below for details.

Free Wi-Fi will be available.

The Washington Times will provide food for members of the press at the Filing Center.

PLEASE NOTE: OPB is a non-smoking facility. All tobacco use will be restricted to outside areas generally located at least 25ft away from buildings and heavily traveled walkways.
TELEVISION: LIVE TRUCK PARKING

Satellite truck parking is available beginning at 6:00 a.m. PDT; however, you will not be able to pick up credentials or enter the Press Filing Center or Spin Room until 9:00 a.m. PDT.

Satellite truck parking will be available on a FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED basis outside at the Willamette Park Boat Ramp, entrance at SW Macadam Ave and Nebraska St.

Only transmission vehicles (satellite and microwave trucks) will be allowed to park in the designated areas.

Live video feed will be available on the over the air channel 10-1, also the feed will be available as an open satellite feed, Transponder information TBD.

A PBS composite bug will appear on the upper screen left at all times during the broadcast. This bug may NOT be obscured.

TELEVISION: REPORTING FROM STAND-UP LOCATION & SPIN ROOM

Media are permitted to report live from outside the live truck parking location.

A multi-distribution HD baseband video (1080i 16x9 HDSDI) signal will be available in the Press Filing Center, distance will be no more that 100Â’.

RADIO ROW

Radio stations may broadcast live from reserved seats inside the Press Filing Center, located at 6932 SW Macadam.

OPB will distribute audio to a mult-box on site; OPB will provide the mult-box located in the Press Filing Center.

PLEASE NOTE: Hard phones lines are NOT available on site in either the Press Filing Center or Spin Room, due to the tight deadline.

STILL PHOTOGRAPHY

Due to space limitations, still photographers may not have reserved seats inside the Press Filing Center.

Arrangements are being made for a pool photographer to take still shots in the debate room just be fore the debate begins and right after the debate ends.

MEDIA WALK-THRU OF THE DEBATE HALL

Time permitting, we will arrange for a media walk-through of the debate hall at a time TBD. Early arrival will increase your chances of joining the tour.

The media walk-thru will be the ONLY opportunity to shoot still photos and video footage inside the debate hall.
PLEASE NOTE: Journalists interested in participating in the walk-thru must have already picked up their credential at check-in.

DEBATE AUDIO AND VIDEO DISTRIBUTION

No video or audio equipment other than that of OPB will be permitted inside the debate hall during the debate.
In addition to the OPB Oregon Republican Presidential Debate footage, OPB will make available for excerpting the candidatesÂ’ photo-op prior to the start of the debate.

EXCERPTING THE DEBATE

A PBS composite bug will appear on the upper screen left at all times during the broadcast. This bug may NOT be obscured.
An audio-only mult-box with a limited number of plugs-ins and a video mult-box with a limited number of plugs-ins available on a first-come, first-served basis in the Press Filing Center at 6932 SW Macadam;

There will be a mult-box near the satellite truck parking area at the Willamette Park Boat Ramp, entrance at SW Macadam Ave and Nebraska St. (HDSD 1080i, 2 channel, discreet and embedded audio.)
