The selection process begins with the creation of a candidate pool, in which lawyers are entered after they are nominated by a peer or discovered during the “Star Search” process. Next, the research department at Super Lawyers examines each candidate on 12 indicators of career achievements and peer recognition including but not limited to the following: verdicts and settlements; honors and awards; scholarly lectures and writings; special licenses and certifications; and representative clients. Next, during the “blue ribbon review,” candidates are categorized according to their main practice area; those with the most number of points from the previous rounds are selected to the blue ribbon panel. Panelists are then given a list of candidates from their area of practice to review and provide a rating based on a one-to-ten scale. Lastly, during the final selection, candidates are categorized into four groups, based on firm size. Attorneys with the most number of points from each category are chosen as “Super Lawyers”.
