ALEC Congratulates Sen. Bill Raggio on his Public Service

(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 21, 2011 ) Carson City, NV - ALEC National Chairman Noble Ellington (R-La.) congratulated Sen. Bill Raggio (R-Nev.) on his years of dedicated public service and his service as a long-time Board member of the American Legislative Exchange Council.

“Sen. Raggio’s passion for public service and dedication to the people of Nevada for over 40 years is truly an inspiration to legislators across the country. Because of his dedication, ALEC established the William J. Raggio Excellence in Leadership and Outstanding Service Award to recognize members that have made demonstrable contribution to the success of ALEC through advancing Jeffersonian principles, recruitment, fundraising, or other comparable activity,” said Ellington. “Sen. Raggio has been one of the longest serving members of ALEC and his leadership will be greatly missed. We wish him all the best.”

Raggio has been a member of ALEC since the 1970Â’s, has served on ALECÂ’s National Board since 1983, and was ALECÂ’s national chairman in 1993. HeÂ’s been a statesman, prosecutor and even Frank SinatraÂ’s lawyer. Raggio is NevadaÂ’s longest-serving state senator in history and was first elected to the upper house in 1972. He achieved 10 sessions as Senate majority leader and as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. Prior to his election to the State House, he spent 18 years as the Washoe County district attorney.

“I’ve known Sen. Raggio for many years now and have had the pleasure of serving with him on the ALEC Board. He has always been committed to the mission of ALEC and was one of the best chairmen in ALEC history,” said ALEC Executive Director Ron Scheberle.
