(USGovernment-News.Com, February 17, 2017 ) Nashville, TN -- As reported by WKRN, the price of a life-saving overdose antidote has increased in the midst of an overdose epidemic sweeping Tennessee. Heroin and opiate painkiller overdoses have increased by over 1,000 per year since 2015. The cost of Naloxone for public services has raised from $1.50 to $30. For citizens, two doses can cost up more than $130.
Drug Rehab Nashville, a leading drug treatment facility in Nashville, understands the need for medications such as Naloxone in the battle to end the substance abuse epidemic. In the face of increasing overdoses in Tennessee, raising prices could be a death sentence.
"That life-saving medication is being restricted in the name of financial gain is appalling. When we witnessed it in the case of of Martin Shkreli profiting from an insulin medication, the public outcry was palpable. Yet now that it is occurring with Naloxone- an anti-overdose drug- we see no such response. The stigmas associated with addiction should not cost lives, nor stand in the way of people who are seeking help. We sincerely urge the pharmaceutical companies responsible for producing this life-saving medication to consider the moral implications of their profiteering."
