As Dunne was giving his statement to the police, another car drove through the police barricade and struck him. He suffered catastrophic injuries, including two head fractures. Dunne, a retired railroad conductor who served in the Vietnam War, now requires round the clock nursing care. The driver of the car, Lisa Lloyd, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault while driving a car while impaired by drugs.
DunneÂ’s award of $32.7 million was the largest non medical malpractice personal injury award in Long Island history to date.
