New FTC Rules: Upcoming Attorney Interview Explains in Plain English What Guidelines Mean for Bloggers, Publishers, Affiliates and Marketers

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 15, 2009 ) Goshen, MA – The U.S. Federal Trade Commission released an extensive set of new guidelines governing advertising disclosures that have set the marketing world buzzing with questions and concerns. As of December 1, 2009, bloggers have to disclose any financial considerations, including free merchandise, they have received, and results-based testimonials must also indicate the "typical" results users have achieved. For those who need to understand how this applies to themselves or their organization, renowned marketer Marcia Yudkin is offering a recorded Q&A session with with business attorney/author Jean Sifleet (www.yudkin.com/ftc.htm ).

"Because rumors, misinformation and do-it-yourself boilerplate are sweeping around the Internet on the new FTC rules, I decided to organize an information session for marketers with a reliable legal expert," says Yudkin, the author of 11 books on marketing, publicity and communication. "Anyone who registers before October 29 may submit a question for the interview, and the first 100 registrants also get a significant discount on a private legal consultation about their own situation."

The expert for the upcoming interview, Massachusetts attorney Jean Sifleet, has decades of experience advising both startup and established businesses on safeguarding intellectual property and preventing exposure to liability. She also has a distinguished record of explaining legal issues and their business implications clearly to non-lawyers. Jean Sifleet is the author of three books, including Advantage "IP": Profit From Your Great Ideas, as well as a three-time entrepreneur.

The recorded interview about the new FTC guidelines may be purchased in downloadable MP3 format for $39.97 or as a CD for $42.97, including shipping. The questions covered depend partially on those submitted by registrants, but they will include:

* For bloggers or other writers who accept free merchandise, what kind of disclosures are now necessary?

* For affiliates, what kind of disclosures are now required for any links that potentially earn commissions for the affiliate?

* Is the FTC saying we are responsible for everything our affiliates say about our products/services, even if we can't realistically monitor them?

* Where and how do disclaimers need to be placed?

* Under what circumstances do people living outside of the U.S. need to take account of the new FTC regulations?
