(USGovernment-News.Com, August 09, 2013 ) Palm Beach, FL – Twelve small cars were tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), of these cars, six were rated “poor” or “marginal”.
According to the IIHS the following vehicles received such ratings:
• Chevrolet Sonic
• Chevrolet Cruze
• Kia Soul
• Kia Forte
• Nissan Sentra
• Volkswagen Beetle
The only small cars to earn “good” rates were the 2 and 4-door models of Honda Civics. The Dodge Dart, Hyundai Elantra, Ford Focus, and Scion tC also earned acceptable ratings.
This test specifically labeled “small overlap front crash” was used to measure how a car would fare when only the front corner of the vehicle was struck. According to the IIHS 25% of U.S front-of-vehicle auto accidents that cause serious injuries or death involve only one corner of the vehicle.
