Mirena Complications Continue to Prompt Lawsuits

(USGovernment-News.Com, June 25, 2013 ) New York, NY – The attorneys working with ClassAction.org continue to investigate allegations that Mirena intrauterine devices (IUD) are defective and have caused significant injury in women who were fitted with the contraceptive.

The Mirena IUD, manufactured by Bayer, is a small T-shaped hormone-releasing device used to prevent pregnancy for up to five years. A number of lawsuits have been filed on behalf of women who claim that use of the device caused severe injuries related to device migration and organ perforation. Migration occurs when Mirena allegedly moves from its intended location and into the abdominal cavity. If you or a loved one has experienced these or other complications, visit http://www.classaction.org/mirena.html to receive a free case review, which can help determine whether you are eligible to file a claim to recover compensation for your injuries.

Migration is not the only complication reportedly linked to the IUD. The Food and Drug Administration has received nearly 60,000 complaints from women fitted with Mirena, with the most common reports indicating expulsion and abdominal pain. The FDA has also received reports of uterine perforation, a serious condition that occurs when the wall of the uterus is damaged by the device as it moves, potentially causing bleeding, discomfort, scarring, and sometimes requiring surgical removal of the IUD. The risk of perforation is reportedly increased if a woman is lactating, or in the post-partum period.

There are currently more than fifty lawsuits filed in federal courts against Bayer. Lawsuits accuse Bayer of selling defective and unsafe products, marketing Mirena as a hassle-free method of birth control, failing to properly warn consumers about possible device migration, and failing to warn adequately about the dangers of uterine perforation.

If you have been fitted with the Bayer’s Mirena intrauterine contraceptive, and experienced any of the symptoms described above, visit ClassAction.org today to find out more about ongoing lawsuits and how you might be able to seek compensation for your injuries. Our attorneys continue to investigate potential cases, and free individual evaluations are available at www.ClassAction.org.
